Pharmacokinetic properties of human fibroblast and leukocyte interferon in rabbits.
When rabbits were given intramuscular injections of the same quantities of human leukocyte or fibroblast interferons, the former produced moderately higher levels of circulating interferon. Fibroblast interferon was not cleared faster from circulation, nor was direct inactivation by rabbit blood responsible for this difference.

Since interferon administration in the treatment of some malignant conditions has been reported to cause leukopenia, we studied the effects of human leukocyte interferon preparation (HLIF) on myelopoiesis in vitro. The continual presence of HLIF in semisolid agar cultures caused a progressive decline in colony and a rise in cluster incidence with increasing concentrations of interferon. The tot...
متن کاملModification of human leukocyte interferon pharmacology with a monoclonal antibody.
The antitumor and antiviral properties of the interferons have been well established. However, the usefulness of the interferons may be limited, in part, because of rapid clearance from the plasma and degradation by plasma or tissue enzymes. A monoclonal antibody (IFG-252.2) was developed which binds to recombinant DNA-produced human alpha-interferon (rIFN-alpha A) without measurably reducing i...
متن کاملBacterial synthesis of a novel human leukocyte interferon.
A novel human leukocyte interferon cDNA clone (LeIF B) was identified in a cDNA library prepared using polyadenylated mRNA of a myeloblastoid cell line. The nucleotide sequence of LeIF B differs significantly from other published leukocyte interferon cDNA sequences. An expression plasmid was constructed which directs the synthesis in E. coli of 8 x 10(7) interferon units per liter of culture. L...
متن کاملTreatment of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis with human leukocyte interferon.
In five patients with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE), human leukocyte interferon (IFN) therapy was tried. IFN was administered intramuscularly, intravenously, and intrathecally. The total dose of administered IFN ranged from 13 X 10(6) to 116.92 X 10(6) IU. There were no severe side effects except for temporary high fever and vomiting. Observation of the clinical course were made fo...
